Molly June's Story
Molly June Kirkwood was born on December 9th, 2012 to my husband Jeff and I (Shanna). She was a healthy baby girl inside the womb, but during birth, her umbilical cord became prolapsed. A prolapsed cord occurs when the umbilical cord comes out of the birth canal before the baby. This causes decreased oxygen and blood flow to the baby. Molly was born not breathing and with no heartbeat. By God’s grace alone, the doctors were able to revive her heart and placed her on a ventilator to help her breathe. However, by this point, she had already suffered so much and was very sick. There were many ups and downs over the next several days and we spent all of our time in the NICU at North Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio. We prayed, we cried, we took pictures, we prayed more and cried more. We brought Molly’s brothers Logan (age 3) and Hunter (age 16 months) to see her and soaked up all the precious time we could with our new baby girl. After 7 days on Earth, Jesus called Molly home to heaven to live with Him until we see her again. Molly passed away on the afternoon of December 16th, 2012. Our lives were forever changed by the precious little life God gave us for a moment. Life has a different meaning than it did a year ago and that can only be God’s sovereign grace.
